My VPS/vServer has the problem that MySQL often deletes its required (mysql.sock and others), it always worked with restarting MySQL, but then once it didn't worked so I wanted to reinstall it, so I wanted to use apt-get, but it wont work too since there is another error (havent found a way to solve it yet), so I think that I should reinstall the server due to these and some other massive problems... My questions: When I reinstall the whole software, will the data be lost or is there a way to backup the data? Is there a difference if I want to switch from Ubuntu to Debian with backupping? Do you know how to solve these two problems with apt-get and MySQL?

No, Ubuntu is based off of Debian, but it's not really a "form" of it so to speak. If you switch to Debian from Ubuntu than you might lose important features. It would depend on what you're trying to do in the end (for instance, Debian doesn't have the sudo command while Ubuntu does).
