I rent a server located in North America while I live in EU. Supposedly the server has more than enough specs so nothing is much of a problem (incl. network and bandwidth). I set up pmmp on the server and get 40 players on average, 20 TPS. Even though the server can easily handle running the software, there is always a negligible-yet-noticable amount of lag for me (because of the region distance). This affects the smoothness of the gameplay. How can this problem be eliminated? I googled a bit and found out that some Minecraft PC server owners deal by recommending players from such far off regions to join via their proxy server's DNS (which they name as such: eu.server.net, asia.server.net, ru.server.net). Has anyone every set up a proxy for such an issue? Does this actually solve the problem? How does one set it up?
Looks like proxy won't do much of a thing as either way, the client is finally being connected to North America.
Big servers simply have multiple server standing in different locations. You can't magically fix the time a packet takes to get from one part of the world to another.
