I don't think using adblock is a problem if you find them annoying (brandon and @99leonchang will kill me for saying this). The old forums only showed ads to guests, and it worked well.
They are most annoying on mobile though as they take up the entire first page, and AFAIK there's no ad blocker for chrome on mobile. I'm sure many of us would be happy to pay a small amount monthly to remove them, and contribute to PMMP at the same time, but I can see it would be problematic for staff to decide where the money goes.
goes to the plugin of the month? haha, and yeah I don't mind paying for ad removal I just find it looks unprofessional, like how old forums were (forumotion) I know proper ad setup does give a bit of income, oooh well, lets just see what it brings in the future and hopefully, something will be done at some point .
ShiihS... And I've willingly added this domain to the exception list of my ad blocker... The ads on this forum are not too bad. I would remove the top ones on the main page and on the profile pages though.
choice* I have no clue what you mean. @Thunder33345 Xenforo has a build in own advertisement setting I'm using Xenforo for 4 sites and without advertisement or even set ads just for guests like SOFe mentioned
i meant it as where they want the ads to display, do they allow popup ads, do they want sidebar/always onscreen ads
are you talking about a choice for members, so they could decide where the ads are being shown/displayed? if so this is not an option, it does require additional plugins.
To be honest, the advertisement never bothered me. I don’t know why people are so whiny about it. -_- But if people really want the ads gone, then get enough donations to keep the community running. The vps doesn’t run on air. -_-
''to be honest'' you know I'm a technical mechanic machine operator, and I we don't use the I or ME but we use US... just because someone has no problems with it doesn't mean others don't to. as for the VPS is cheap if you think VPS cost a lot try dedicated server for 15,- a month u have a nice VPS host with the requirements this community has, you don't start to run a community forum without funds right just to expect that it will pay for itself? if it is too much to handle ill offer a slot for the site no problem u get 250gb SSD 500 Mbps up/down with Plesk web Onyx totally free! so then the ads can be removed right?... I'm pretty sure members would like to spend some money on helping out I'm 100% sure 30 people have read this thread is each person throws in 5,- that's 30x5 =150,- I'm pretty sure that will last a while to get them annoying ads removed.
as far as i know, donations earn more then an ad any amount of ads can paid to and if they wanna paid the amount the ads would have generated off them, but this time more direct i dont see why
this is 2018 nearing 2019 advertisements are annoying no matter where, and instead of the ads blocker installments why not go old school and spend a buck... maybe I'm to old school for this generation most cost go probably to Cloudflare
On phones the adverts are horribly obtrusive: PMMP don't get anything for ad impressions, only clicks, so even 1$ a month per user would generate more cash.
