Hi, I've been running an offline PMMP server for a few years at the school I have worked for and it's always rocked especially with pupils who just need somewhere to go an play. Students BYOD connect to a local wifi network which has no internet access and play together at lunch times. As we know the new version of PMMP requires xbox live login. So has this in essence killed my local server? The PMMP server is on a separate local network from the main school network and has no internet connection (a rule applied by the school in order for me to have a PMMP server running was it cannot be connected to the main school network) many of our students don't have XBOX live accounts and most have just been using old android tablets with no 3g/4g connectivity Is there anything at all I can do? or am i in essence stuffed? Thanks Damian
Has the issue only just started since the 1.2 (Darn XBOX) update? If so, I suggest the student's create a xbox account, as they will not be able to play otherwise. Also, the school Might have to allow access to the xbox.com domain in order for the student's to be able to log in. Hope this helps, TheDeibo (Also Called Damian xD)
If you can get it to show up on the LAN servers list then you're fine. Login isn't required for LAN servers. Make sure it's on port 19132 though (MCPE doesn't scan on any other ports)
This is the update that applied yesterday - It does appear on LAN servers and i am using 19132 as always - however now when you click the server it brings a message to say an xbox account is needed to play on-line message despite not actually being online.
Hmm - not good. Xbox accounts aren't something i can ask students to create and the school won't allow xbox.com. The minecraft server isn't connected to the school main network and doesn't have access to the internet. This was a proviso in the school letting me set it up in the first place.
Are you sure you are trying to join in the middle tab "Friends" under 'LAN Games' and not in the "Servers" tab? If it doesn't appear in Friends > LAN Games, remove it from the Servers list.
Ok - yes i was on servers, this is how i've always run it as a local server. I've removed it from my test device but the problem remains that XBOX live is required This is what i've tried, i'd be very greatful if there is a know solution as it looks like to me XBOX live login is now a requirement for any server play. I've removed it from the server list I'm on the same lan (remember no web access just a local wifi network) PMMP is running with the latest alpha phar When i go to the Friends tab - this is empty. If i click on Add friend - you have to be connected to xbox live I can add it as a server in the server tabs using the local ip but again it will ask for a xbox live to play
I've done exactly as you have - and as soon as I remove my local server from the 'Server' tab it shows up automatically in 'Friends' and I can join without signing in to xbl. Maybe something to do with your router or firewall settings?
The network consists of a minecraft server running Windows 10 64bit and PHP 7.02 An old wireless router set to open and now firewall so it's nothing in that. Is the a configuration setting in the config file i need to modify then? It's been so reliable for years too. Damian
I won't be able to assist more as I never used windows till now the last memory was an Windows XP Professional cuz my PC kind of exploded? Anyways if its Linux regarding I'll try to help. I might also help with small things as well if help needed on this thread.
For those with similar issues. It looks like we are making some progress. On some deivces removing it as a server has made it appear on friends and all is working. On other devices (including my Samsung S6) its not coming up as a lan game. So i guess this is a device specific problem rather than a PMMP issue. Thanks for the advice its been greatfully recieved
Final comment for dev as now think its sorted(ish) If you have a new install of minecraft on a blank device you have to create a local word to build the user profile (i assume) this will then connect as a lan game without asking or using a XboxGamer Tag If you already have an install and have never logged in with an xboxlive gamer tag it will use your local profile in the lan game. If you have ever used a xboxlive gamer tag then when you start minecraft it will show you local profile - in my case MrDBurrin as i moderate kids on the system. As i've in the past logged into xbox live on my phone, even though i don't ask it to logon to xbox live, and even if i turn off my 4g service and am only connected to the offline wifi system - once you connect to the minecraft game it remembers your xboxgamer tag and joins using that. So in my case it joins the game as DamianBurrin which is very frustraiting - but i guess thats the way it works now.
I'm not actually logged into xbox live as i've turned off mobile data. I seems to remember it. But will try again on Monday, thank you. The important thing is the server is running, kids can connect and have somewhere to go at lunch
