I found many articles about different comparison algorithms out there, but most of them only talk about the compression speed and extraction speed. But what if I don't care about compression speed and bulk extraction speed, but I only want the algorithm with the fastest extraction for a single file in the archive? For example, in .tar.gz format, it is probably inefficient to seek an offset in the gzipped tar and start extracting it. Is there a format that is designed for seeking and extracting and individual file from the archive?
